Background

The susdrain SuDS Awards 2020 celebrated exceptional SuDS, and gave due recognition to a SuDS Champion who is instrumental in delivering exceptional SuDS.

The Awards provide a platform to share the best SuDS that have been implemented over the last four years, recognising high-quality planning, design, construction and maintenance of sustainable drainage. During the awards, finalists showcased the key elements of their schemes. This is a unique opportunity to get the inside track on the winning projects with in-depth case studies presented by the teams involved.

This first of two webinars showcases three of the winning projects about which the judges commented:

Pocket Parks in South East London – winner in the retrofit small scale category
  • Great examples of delivery of the three pillars of SuDS which look good and are applicable everywhere.
  • These schemes are well integrated with the highway and the before and after images really show the ‘wow factor’.
Climate Innovation District – winner in the new build large scale category
  • Very innovative approach in a difficult site with limited space.
  • A great example of maximising opportunities and doing multi-functionality well.
  • This is a pace-setting development demonstrating there is always room for SuDS.
Greener Grangetown – winner in the retrofit large scale category and overall winner
  • An extremely well-considered and extensive retrofit SuDS scheme.
  • Clever systems are used to convey surface water and reduce combined sewer overflow spills.
  • Evidence of benefits are demonstrated, the level of consultation was amazing and the residents love it.
