Coastal Eco-Engineering: Boosting Britain's biodiversity

This webinar will explore the use of what is termed as "eco-engineering" across the UK coastline, and how these innovative techniques are crossing the bridge between academia and use in industry. The topic will be addressed from various perspectives in industry, and will focus on infrastructure along the coastline, and how these can be adapted to boost our coastal ecosystems.

Background

Across the UK coastline, there is an abundance of infrastructure used for coastal protection, flood defence, commercial or recreational purposes. However, these are rarely designed to enhance coastal water ecosystems. In recent years, ideas have been developed to use this so-called "grey infrastructure" to provide habitats for marine life. There are various projects and schemes going on across the country, each of which are proving successful in their intentions of boosting marine ecosystems.

Examples of two of the projects that will be showcase at this event can be found below:

Why attend

Attendees at this webinar will:

  • hear directly from the academics involved in eco-engineering projects across the UK, and have an opportunity to ask questions about the projects
  • examine the impact projects have had on industry to date
  • have an opportunity to identify project outputs that may be transferable to their businesses
  • develop understanding of the importance of eco-engineering for a sustainable future.
