CANCELLED - Culvert design and operation

The design and operation of culverts is critical to effective flood risk management. Inadequate design or neglect can lead to severe flooding. This training, based on CIRIA C689 Culvert design and operation guide (CDOG) supersedes CIRIA R168 (1997), provides guidance on the whole-life cycle of culverts, recognising that there is an enormous stock of existing culverts of various types, sizes, age and condition

Introduction
The design and operation of culverts is critical to effective flood risk management. Inadequate design or neglect can lead to severe flooding. This training, based on CIRIA C689 Culvert design and operation guide (CDOG) supersedes CIRIA R168 (1997), provides guidance on the whole-life cycle of culverts, recognising that there is an enormous stock of existing culverts of various types, sizes, age and condition.

This training course provides asset managers and designers with a comprehensive understanding of the whole life cycle of a culvert, providing guidance on inspection, assessment, maintenance and renewal of existing, culverts, as well as their design. The training is underpinned by the principles of whole-life asset management and a systems approach to drainage. Guidance will be given on cutting edge hydraulic assessment techniques, taking account of developments in hydrology and hydraulic analysis.

Who should attend?
The training will be relevant to infrastructure asset managers, flood risk and drainage engineers, landscape architects, planners, architects, and those working in or with environmental regulators, local authorities, highway authorities, developers, consultants and contractors.

Why should you attend?
  • keep up-to-date with current legislation and regulatory requirements
  • learn the most up-to-date design concepts
  • understand key principles, aims and how to apply the CDOG approach using real life case studies
  • share experiences and knowledge with our expert trainers and other delegates
  • the two day training provides 12 hours CPD accreditation
CPD
This course has a value of 12 hours towards your CPD. Certificates will be sent to delegates following completion.

Trainers
Fola Ogunyoye | Royal HaskoningDHV

Fola has over 28 years of water engineering experience. His breadth of experience as a consultant, designer, operations engineer and site engineer enables him to deliver guidance, training and solutions that are underpinned by leading edge science, yet shaped by sound practical experience.  Fola led the team that developed CIRIA’s Culvert Design and Operations Guide (CDOG) and contributed to the subsequent CDOG technical note on understanding blockage risks. Fola was also contributed to other water industry guidance including the Environment Agency’s Channel Management Handbook and Fluvial Design Guide. As a practitioner, Fola is involved in the day to day design and whole life management of culverts and other water management infrastructure

Jeremy Benn | JBA Consulting
Jeremy has over 33 years’ water engineering experience working in the UK and overseas.  He has published and lectured widely on the subjects of flood estimation, hydraulic design of structures and flood risk management. He has been involved in the feasibility and detailed design of irrigation, drainage, flood walls, and storage reservoirs, ranging from culvert replacements to multi-million pound flood alleviation schemes. He has contributed to the CIRIA Culvert Design and Operation Guide (C689) the update to the CIRIA Scour Manual, and is currently working as a contributor on the CIRIA Weirs best practice guide revision.
