Webinar: 'Delivering wellbeing at site level'

CIRIA's new project 'Delivering wellbeing at site level' will raise awareness of the benefits of tackling this emerging issue and help construction companies enhance the health and wellbeing of the construction workforce through the development of good practice guidance and a baselining tool for use by the industry.

Background

The construction industry represents a major part of the UK economy, with approximately 2 million people working in the sector. Employees are a fundamental resource for the industry, and their health and wellbeing is of paramount importance for themselves and their families as well as for their employers and society.

Many studies have been carried out to improve the design of offices, shops and homes to enhance users’ wellbeing. However, much still needs to be done to enhance the wellbeing of the people working on construction sites, which are generally very demanding environments.  The physical and mental demand of construction work results in a higher risk of poor health and wellbeing compared to other sectors. Additionally, the diffusion of common mental health problems, such as anxiety, stress or depression are often underestimated but have a huge impact on the sector. The industry’s desire to tackle this issue has been highlighted by initiatives such as the Public Health Responsibility Deal, Public Health Surveillance Strategy and the Responsibility Deal Construction.

This webinar will introduce CIRIA’s latest good practice guidance ahead of its release later this year.
