Groundwater control modelling in practice - CANCELLED

This seminar and workshop will present the fundamentals of groundwater control modelling. This will include the theory of groundwater flow through porous saturated ground, the simulation of groundwater control systems, and how to model aquifer pump and injection tests. Participants will benefit from hands on modelling using groundwater modelling software GEMOS-LITE and CVM10-PRO.

Background
Whenever an excavation is made below the water table there is a risk that it will become unstable or flood unless measures are taken to control the groundwater in the surrounding soil. This seminar and workshop will provide guidance on how a dewatering system consisting of multiple wells can intercept the groundwater to prevent inflow to the excavation. This will be illustrated using GEMOS-LITE, a tool for simulating multi-well steady state groundwater flow. The attendee can then further their modelling skills using CVM10-PRO, a finite element model for transient groundwater flow in confined, unconfined and leaky aquifers. This model enables the user to determine soil parameters such as permeability, storativity and leakage coefficient from aquifer pump and injection tests.

Why attend?
In this workshop you will:
  • learn from experienced professionals in industry
  • increase your understanding of groundwater theory and modelling
  • simulate groundwater control dewatering systems
  • model aquifer pump and injection tests
Please note: It is essential a Windows PC with Microsoft Excel in brought to the workshop to be able to run CVM10-PRO (proprietary product).
