CANCELLEDInnovative site investigation for contaminated land

This event will explore innovative approaches to site investigation for contaminated land, discussing the latest developments, the benefits and limitations, theory and practical application of the new approaches and how these could be related to other investigations such as geotechnical issues.

Background
Site investigation (SI) is an important component of the risk assessment process and/or development route for contaminated sites. With the government now pushing more developments on brownfield sites, more SI is likely to take place in the future.

SI techniques have evolved substantially in the past decades particularly, increasing use of geophysical and remote sensing techniques for data acquisition and interpretation. For example, use of in-situ data loggers such as MIP for real-time, targeted data collection, new exploration methods e.g.  wireline “Geobore S” triple tube drilling system. The recent EA paper, Collaborative research priorities for the Environment Agency 2016-2020 highlighted that new monitoring techniques such as unmanned aerial vehicle (UAVs) should be used more often in surveying waste sites.
