A journey towards sustainable drainage
susdrain's summer 2016 seminar "A journey towards sustainable drainage - the water industry's approach" will explore a shift in practice from using below ground drainage as a default, where surface water was once seen as a nuisance, towards implementation of SuDS where water is visible and is valued as a resource.
Background
The event will be aimed at those working with the water industry and those that may be navigating their way through the processes and considerations required to plan, design manage and adopt SuDS, including designers, strategic policy makers, local authority officers, and developers. Presentations will provide a water industry perspective on retrofitting SuDS and their use in new developments, talking through the inspiration and ideas behind the greater uptake of SuDS. Our presenters will explain the drivers, their approach, how this transition is gaining momentum and how challenges have been overcome.
Presentations will illustrate where SuDS have been successfully implemented and how the water industry is addressing the need for SuDS in future development. They will demonstrate how SuDS can be achieved using good practice, partnerships, and by debunking myths
The objectives for the event will be to illustrate and discuss the water industry’s perspective on:
- The vision for transition
- The drivers for transition
- Working with partners (opportunities and challenges)
- Making SuDS work - design and maintenance; and how this relates to good practice
- Case studies, of existing interventions or planned interventions.
