Achieving multiple benefits from SuDS through planning

Susdrain's Spring 2016 event brings presentations from stakeholders who are currently working on a significant mixed use development in North West Cambridgeshire. The story of how SuDS and the multiple benefits from integrated water management became a critical part of this pioneering scheme will be told through the planning, client, flood risk management and design/master planning points of view.

When
16 February 2016
14.30-16.45 (registration from 14.00)
FREE to attend

The focus of this event will be on SuDS and how multiple benefits can be achieved from integrated water management through the plan-led system. The significant and comprehensive North West Cambridge Development will be used as the focus for the event. Presentations will demonstrate how having robust local planning policies and clearly stated objectives to improve water management at the outset, and a can-do approach from a client seeking the best possible outcomes from their investment, can achieve successful and innovative outcomes.

Each speaker brings a wealth of experience to the event and presentations will cover:
  • the development of local planning policy and Area Action Plans, and how the policies withstood challenges through the iterative design process
  • the evolution of the project brief from inception through to what is presently being built
  • achieving integrated water management objectives and requirement
  • how the agreed master plan evolved during the project programme for construction on site.
Why attend
Presentations will cover:
  • motivations and drivers for SuDS being included in the scheme
  • relationships between the developer, design team and the planning authority
  • critical thresholds required before planning permission was given
  • progress from project brief, plan, detail and operations on site
  • processes for checking expectations against delivery
  • long term maintenance and adoption – considerations and challenges, and how these will be delivered.
The event will provide an assessment of how a project of this scale can be addressed with the right team and right attitude to deliver SuDS and other integrated water management outcomes.
