Background

Local Planning Authorities (LPAs) and their interaction with the Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs) now hold the key to successful delivery of SuDS. Their knowledge, understanding and links with LLFAs will be essential in ensuring they have the confidence to work with developers to request, approve and arrange the maintenance of high quality SuDS schemes.

In light of the changes to the English planning process to request SuDS and the new statutory consultee role of LLFAs there is concern among many that local authority planners may be under resourced for an influx of planning applications requiring consideration of SuDS, and that the processes they have in place may not be sufficiently robust. This event will provide a timely series of presentations on where and how some Local Authorities have successfully approached this new requirement.

We bring LLFA representatives and local authority planners together to present their experience of this changing situation. The focus is on how local flood risk managers and planners at a local level can efficiently ensure that SuDS are considered and delivered from the outset, highlighting the importance of good connections between local planning policy and delivery and the need for good communications and relationships.

Who should attend?
This seminar will be of particular interest to those involved in planning for SuDS, in particular local authority planners, strategic LLFA planners, planners, designers and developers, who are seeking to adapt to the new statutory processes and national standards for SuDS in England.

Delegates will gain:
  • A useful insight into the operations of other local authority planners at both LLFA and LPA levels when considering applications that include or should include SuDS.
  • Clarity on successful communication processes that are being or have been developed by these local authorities.
  • A better understanding of the processes adopted or being adopted by these authorities to ensure high quality SuDS are incorporated into developments early in the planning process.
  • Inspiration on how to maximise resources and develop good practice approaches whilst the new national standards and statutory lines of communication become embedded.
  • A useful insight into how some local authorities are collaborating across the tiers to facilitate successful SuDS delivery.
