Background
Since the introduction of CLR 11; Model procedures for management of land contamination, the risk assessment process for contaminated land has expanded and evolved in the UK. Models have been refined and site investigation approaches modified to ensure that the correct data is collected and analysed.
The risk assessment process is an iterative process starting with a Generic Assessment moving on to a detailed site specific Quantitative Assessment as needed. We now have the use of Normal ‘Background’ as part of the assessment process and the Category 4 Screening Levels have been published. How does using C4SL’s impact upon the Risk Assessment process? Is there a significant change in outcome? Do C4SL’s impact upon the DQRA?
