Background
CIRIA has published 'Design for movement in buildings’ C734, up-to-date guidance in this topic area. CIRIA published TN107 (on this topic) in 1981 and it remained the only general guidance for designers on the subject until C734 was published in 2014. The guidance in C734 not only updates TN107 but also expands the coverage of the topic including consideration of modern cladding systems and interface communication.

The need to accommodate movement can have a major effect on basic conceptual decisions. This event and the publication aim to alert designers to the importance of considering movement in the early stage of design.

This event has been arranged to introduce C734, which provides guidance about the issues involved in movement, open the eyes of younger designers and provide CPD for the more experienced.

Why should you attend?
  • Understand the importance of the issues addressed in C734 and the consideration of movement in buildings in the early design stage
  • Alert designers to the issues and what can be done about them
  • Consider the types and sources movement which affect the performance of buildings
  • Discuss methods to estimate movement, assessment of effects and examples of design details

Who should attend?
Designers of buildings. Structural, façade and civil engineers.
